Pop singer and songwriter Christopher Uckermann was born on October 21, 1986 in Mexico City . The son of a Swedish mother and a Mexican father, Uckermann began working very early – as early as two years old, when he appeared in several television commercials.
It wasn’t until 1999, however, that Uckermann found his way into a more prestigious role, that of a member of El diario de Daniela, a successful telenovela (a television serial melodrama with a set number of episodes). From there he gained momentum enough to land a role in 2000’s Amigos X Siempre (Friends 4 Ever), another successful television series that ran for 115 hour-long episodes.
In 2001, while still on Amigos X Siempre, Uckermann landed a role in another telenovela, Aventuras En El Tiempo, which ran for 105 episodes and also gave Uckermann to display his songwriting talents when he composed the theme song for the show.
By far Uckermann’s most important role, however, came in 2004 when he was cast in the telenovela Rebelde, where he played student Diego Bustamante, a young man looking to make his way into a successful music career. He encounters plenty of drama along the way, of course, but eventually manages to join a musical group called RBD. The show ran for over 400 episodes before shutting shop in 2006, with Diego living happily ever after.
But Uckermann’s career was only just beginning, thanks to the success of Rebelde – or, perhaps more specifically, the success of RBD on the show. From the fictional show a real band was sprung with the primary students in the show’s band acting as singers in real life. Already possessing the backing of the show the group has encountered a great deal of success in Mexico , South America , Spain and the United States , and tours regularly across a variety of countries. They’ve had four albums to date, the first of which was named after the show Rebelde.
RBD’s television days didn’t end with Rebelde, however, and Uckermann and his cohorts found fame on a new television show as a group, the sitcom RBD: La Familia. Unfortunately RBD Familia did not receive the same kind of popularity as Rebelde, and Uckermann has since confirmed that it is cancelled after only 13 episodes.
Outside RBD has continued his music-making ambitions, writing songs as well as performing with his bandmates. He also owns his own company that makes and distributes Romanian-made pendants. He and other members of the Rebelde cast wore these pendants while on-set, and they can be seen in the show. Uckermann is also an excellent skateboarder and proficient with the drums.
Unfortunately Uckermann will have to look for new work as of 2009. RBD has decided to split up after four years of working together, and will formally do so after performing one last farewell tour in 2009. Perhaps as a way of formalizing that breakup, Uckermann is writing a book on his experiences as part of the band.
